Brad Young

Brad Young is a community podcaster based in Suffolk. A former teacher, he has been involved in community radio for many years presenting music programmes on a variety of community stations in Suffolk. After retiring from teaching, Brad briefly worked as manager of community media projects in Ipswich, before deciding to set up a community podcast as an experiment in his village. The request to be kept up to date with local social events and community groups, and the will to be tapped into the deep roots of the area were two key themes that emerged when having conversations with neighbours.

With this in mind, The Horringer Podcast was born, and it has been running throughout 2023. He has recently produced another series, called the ‘Space to be….’. After CSC’s Coffee Club in autumn 2023, focused on mental health and loneliness, he was so impressed by the innovative ways in which groups were going into different places to provide support, that he decided to find out more. This resulted in a series of short podcasts in which they interviewed people who provide an outstanding range of support in the most unusual places: from hairdressers, anglers, cyclists to support groups who meet in pubs, sheds and woods.

Brad is currently working with #32Steps partners Edinburgh Interfaith Association on a new series of podcasts entitled Future of Faith, as well as broadening their media output. In 2023 he also hosted a CSC workshop on Community Podcasting and ways in which groups can produce their own programmes for little or no cost. Along with his colleague Sam, Brad also provides training in the skills of interviewing and editing for anyone who wants to develop their own podcasts, through their CIC Gift Wrapped Media.
