Our Approach

Bumblebee Children’s Charity is a specialist centre based in Suffolk that works with families to support young children living with disabilities.

The charity is the only specialist centre in the area providing vital ‘pre-school’ support for children with a range of physical disabilities and other developmental challenges (including those that have no diagnosis). Bumblebee’s small expert team work with each child holistically, and collaborate with parents who do not pay for the service in the aim of showcasing the ability in any child’s disability.

The Project Brief

Our multidisciplinary team are seasoned evaluators with an excellent understanding of disability, neurodiversity and child development. After being awarded a game-changing National Lottery Community Fund grant, Bumblebee was looking for an independent evaluator to capture the value and the difference they make as evidence to other funders, including wider health and social providers. We will also be taking the opportunity to support Bumblebee in developing a monitoring and evaluation framework (M&E) and carrying out a strengthening exercise with the board of trustees to co-produce a long-term strategy.

Evaluation

Strategy

By being strategic in their approach to capturing the value added by Bumblebee’s work, interacting with a range of beneficiaries and stakeholders, the CSC team will also take this evaluation as an opportunity to develop a Theory of Change based on an analysis of interviews with a number of different stakeholders. This Theory of Change will inform the structure of the final report: the findings from the impact evaluation will be presented in a comprehensive and visually engaging report to evidence Bumblebee's continued development for funders.

Impact

As with all of our evaluations, CSC is working with Bumblebee in a relational and embedded way to ensure continuous shared learning and optimal understanding of how change is taking place. CSC has already had the pleasure of visiting the Centre in February to gain a full picture of Bumblebee's work and identify their aims and priorities.

We look forward to working with Bumblebee to strengthen their strategy and evidence the value and impact of their essential services.
